Seminare im Winter Semester 2024 / 2025
CRD - Sustainable Architecture
Modul 29 - Sondergebiete des Klimagerechten Entwerfens
Klasse für Gebäudetechnologie und klimagerechtes Entwerfen
The Sustainable Architecture seminar is set up as a joint-venture course between the abk-Stuttgart and the Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design (IUSD) Masters’ program hosted at the University of Stuttgart and Ain Shams University in Cairo. The seminar offers students from both programs to work together in international and interdisciplinary teams. The teams will create architectural designs at various locations throughout the world and experience intercultural teamwork at the same time.
Climate Responsive Design Strategies offer solutions to sustainability issues in architecture and have a high level of relevance to the design. The seminar explores the potential of architectural design based on climatic conditions and to what extent it can contribute to the architectural identity of the location.
Within this context, the main emphasis of the seminar is the investigation on the interplay between location, ecology, material, space and form. The starting point for the design is the analysis of the location, the availability of resources and materials, the local climate, and the cultural setting. The design goal is to achieve optimized comfort conditions for the user while at the same time minimizing the energy demand of the building and profiting from the natural energy resources in the built environment.
In workshops, the interdisciplinary teams develop urban and building designs responding to various climatic contexts. The objective is to enable intuitive access to the climate-responsive design methodology and to deepen the understanding of the challenges and opportunities of ecology, building technology and building physics aspects in the built environment.
The seminar will be assisted by invited external lecturers who will support the seminar members by sharing their professional expertise. The seminar will be held in English.
