Der 0711 Contest im Ausstellungsjahr der IBA’27 begreift das Projektgebiet in Fellbach als räumliches Transformationsfeld, in dem bestehende Gewerbe-, Infrastruktur- und Freiraumstrukturen weiterentwickelt werden. Ausgangspunkt ist nicht die Neuproduktion von Stadt auf der grünen Wiese, sondern die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Bestand als materieller, räumlicher und organisatorischer Grundlage zukünftiger Entwicklungen. Zentrale Entwurfsstrategien sind Rückbau, Umbau, Anbau und Ausbau als unterschiedliche Formen des Weiterbauens.

Das Projekt - Agriculture meets Manufacturing - dient als Rahmen für eine erweiterte Betrachtung produktiver Stadtlandschaften. Produktion wird dabei nicht ausschließlich als industrielle Tätigkeit verstanden, sondern als Gefüge räumlicher, sozialer, ökologischer und infrastruktureller Prozesse. Stadt, Landschaft und produktive Nutzungen werden in ihrer Wechselwirkung untersucht und als integrale Bestandteile eines gemeinsamen Raums begriffen. Der Fokus liegt auf der Überwindung funktionaler Trennungen und der Entwicklung gemischter, anpassungsfähiger Strukturen.

Im Zentrum der Bearbeitung steht die Analyse und Transformation bestehender Strukturen. Diese werden selektiv reduziert, umgenutzt, ergänzt oder räumlich fortgeschrieben. Der Bestand wird nicht als Defizit, sondern als Ressource verstanden, aus der neue räumliche Qualitäten, Nutzungen und Entwicklungslogiken hervorgehen können. Transformation wird als gradueller Prozess konzipiert, der unterschiedliche Zeitschichten sichtbar hält und zukünftige Veränderungen antizipiert, ohne sie abschließend festzuschreiben.

Die Entwürfe können unterschiedliche Maßstabsebenen adressieren und mit typologischen, systemischen oder prozessualen Ansätzen operieren. Temporäre Interventionen, additive Strukturen, hybride Nutzungen oder langfristige Entwicklungsszenarien sind ebenso möglich wie spekulative oder prototypische Untersuchungen. Im Vordergrund stehen nicht abgeschlossene Entwürfe, sondern methodische Haltungen und räumliche Strategien im Umgang mit dem Bestehenden.

Die Bearbeitung erfolgt entweder auf konkreten Baufeldern oder in baufeldübergreifenden Studien. Die Ergebnisse werden in Form von Modellen, Zeichnungen, Karten, Sequenzen oder räumlichen Prototypen erarbeitet und im Sommer 2027 im Rahmen der IBA’27-Ausstellung in Fellbach öffentlich präsentiert. Der 0711 Contest bietet Studierenden damit die Möglichkeit, an einem realen Ort architektonische und städtebauliche Transformation als Entwurfsaufgaben zu bearbeiten und ihre Position in einen übergeordneten fachlichen Diskurs einzubringen; Auszeichnungen und Preisgelder sind vorgesehen.

The 0711 Contest, taking place during the exhibition year of the IBA’27, understands the project area in Fellbach as a spatial field of transformation in which existing commercial, infrastructural, and open-space structures are further developed. The starting point is not the creation of a new city on a greenfield site, but rather an engagement with the existing fabric as a material, spatial, and organizational foundation for future developments. Key design strategies include dismantling, conversion, extension, and expansion as different forms of building upon what already exists.

The project — Agriculture meets Manufacturing — serves as a framework for an expanded understanding of productive urban landscapes. Production is not understood solely as an industrial activity, but as a constellation of spatial, social, ecological, and infrastructural processes. The interplay between city, landscape, and productive uses is examined and conceived as integral components of a shared spatial system. The focus lies on overcoming functional separations and developing mixed, adaptable structures.

At the core of the work is the analysis and transformation of existing structures. These are selectively reduced, repurposed, extended, or spatially continued. The existing fabric is not seen as a deficit, but as a resource from which new spatial qualities, uses, and development logics can emerge. Transformation is conceived as a gradual process that preserves multiple temporal layers and anticipates future changes without fully determining them.

The design proposals may address different scales and operate through typological, systemic, or process-based approaches. Temporary interventions, additive structures, hybrid uses, or long-term development scenarios are equally possible, as are speculative or prototypical investigations. The emphasis is not on finalized designs, but on methodological positions and spatial strategies for engaging with the existing context.

The work is carried out either on specific building plots or through cross-plot studies. The results are developed in the form of models, drawings, maps, sequences, or spatial prototypes and will be publicly presented in summer 2027 as part of the IBA’27 exhibition in Fellbach. The 0711 Contest thus offers students the opportunity to engage with architectural and urban transformation in a real context and to position their work within a broader disciplinary discourse; awards and prize money are provided.
